Funeral Service Details

Services will be held Saturday, July 27 3:00 pm at LDS Paradise Ward on Pile and Bermuda (10230 Bermuda, Las Vegas 89123). Viewing will begin at 12:30.

Interment will be in Springville Utah's Evergreen Cemetery.  Graveside service will occur on 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 29. Thanks to Paul at Wheeler Mortuary for his kind assistance.

Suffering without Complaint

Bob had two rounds of therapy for lymphoma from which he recuperated like a champeon.

From May 26, 2011 when Bob had a massive stroke and was paralyzed on his right side, Bob proved patient and long suffering with the final stage of his life.  He had six months of rehab care and was able to go to church and live at home for a full year and a half.  Pat was able to take him to church and to his appointments pushing a wheelchair (and got very strong in the process).

In February 2013 Bob developed a diabetic ulcer on his foot with such a serious infection he was in the hospital until June.  Thereafter a hospice was set up in his home.  He transitioned with loving family around him on July 23, 2013.  The passing was considered a "Gift" from our Father in Heaven for Pat's 70th birthday to relieve Bob from his long suffering.

The other dedicated person who never complained about long hours of service is Pat.  I'm sure Pat has the eternal thanks from her beloved husband and extra stars in her heavenly crown. XOXO!

Desert Chorale

Music was a great part of the talent Bob had to share. His beautiful baritone voice was heard from the inception of Desert Chorale in 1984.  He enjoyed the friendships he made within the choir and the many places they travelled. 

Bob sang in memorable concerts in the State of Nevada and other diverse places.  Some of these were the Christmas concert at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, with Tony Orlando and Joan Rivers in Disneyland, Spring Concert Tour in Mexico City and Oxaca, and the Hamilton Canada Music Festival.

All in the Family

It was a happy family when we added another sister Brandie and baby brother Allan. 

Allan remembers how the kids loved going to the lake. The kids packed lunch and had the boat ready to go when Dad came home.  Terrible's flag was the final test!  If it was totally unfurled and blowing in the wind, the water would be too rough and they would have to stay home. Allan remembers water skiing on Bob's shoulders.  Can't imagine that later when he grew to be over six feet tall!

Devotion to the Gospel

The family enjoyed a life of participation and service to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Especially remembered were "Family Nights at the Lake," Father and Son outtings, Daddy-Daughter dates, and waking up to the song "Oh, What a Beautiful Morning."

Bob wrote in his history that early in his married life with Pat "I home taught LaMar and Sharon Ballard in 1965 and we became the best of friends. We hunt, fish and boat -- every activity we do together. In mixing church and fun we have run the Colorado River rapids, scuba dived in Catalina, and motor cycled in Utah.

I loved working in all my Church assignments, in Elders Quorum, MIA Pres. and a counselor to Bishop Noorda for a year and then Bishop Ballard for three more.  I've enjoyed Las Vegas and the 17th Ward and I hope to do so for many more.  My time in the Bishopric was choice.  I hope to serve where ever I can be of use."

Subsequently, he was a counselor to Bp Stowell, then he was Bishop of the Tropicana Ward.

Marriage to Pat - from the Horses Mouth!

Quoted from history written by Bob.

"I met Pat Lynn who was also from Springville, Utah. We courted by traveling back and forth to Springville to visit our families. Our families lived two blocks apart, but I didn't know Pat in Springville because she was still in Kindergarten.  Pat's dad finally paid me twenty dollars to take her off his hands and I needed the money so I married her. 

Bp. Tom Logan married us Nov. 18, 1966.  Pat had Tamara 4, and Lynn 1, so that twenty dollars didn't go very far.  In January 1970 Pat and I were sealed in the St. George Temple and then precious son Richard was laid in our arms."

Early to work! Sadness in Love.

Bob started work when he was only fourteen.  He cut trees all summer for Reynolds Construction and had a job from then on.  He drove truck two years before he had a driver's license! The next five years he operated a cat and a scraper and oiled on a crusher and hot plant.

He attended Snow College for two years and earned an Associate of Science degree.  He played baseball and basketball and was captain of the basketball team.  After a quarter at BYU he joined the U.S.Army.  He was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado and played basketball for the Battle Group team. He spent a year and a half at Fort Lewis, Washington. He was discharged in 1960 and reactivated eight months later for the Berlin Crisis.  So one more year in the Army.  He enjoyed his military experiences very much. 

He found work was slow in Utah so he moved to Las Vegas in December 1961.  He married LaRae Snyder in 1962.  LaRae had a beautiful four year old daughter named Geri Sue. In 1963 his oldest son Jay was born. During LaRae's pregnancy the doctors discovered cancer. Thanks to some of the original 17th Ward members they were reactivated and were sealed in the St. George LDS Temple.  LaRae passed on when Jay was a year and a half old.  He was cared for by Grandma Ila Groesbeck while Bob worked in Las Vegas.

Born First of Three Children - Early Years

Robert Dean Groesbeck was born the oldest of three children on May 12, 1936 in Grangeville, Idaho.  His Father was J. Milton (Whitie) Groesbeck and Mother was Ila Anderson Groesbeck.  Beloved younger sisters are Ila Ann and Carolyn. Whitie worked for the Bureau of Public Roads and Bob grew up in construction camps all over Utah, Idaho and Wyoming. 

As kids they explored old Indian dwellings and campsites, collected arrowheads and pottery.  They moved to Springville, Utah.  Bob remembered riding his bike across town every Saturday to mow Grandma's grass for movie money - only fourteen cents!

They moved to Kooski, Idaho where Bob got his first rifle for Christmas and he and his father would float cans down the Lockwaw River and shoot them for target practice.  He loved the fishing where he could catch the limit every day. 

They moved back to Springville Utah in time for Bob to enter 5th Grade.  His bio says  "...friends he had in Jr High and High School were great.  We hunted deer, ducks, pheasants, rabbits, dove and quail.  We spent most of our time and money hunting and fishing.  I played trumpet for 6 years, marched in all the parades and played solo two years in the orchestra.  I played basketball, baseball and football for Springville High School."
